Check In with 5 & A Dime

5 & A Dime has been very active over the last year, and he’s finally ready to release another full album. Come April 19th, he’ll be dropping Ear Candy, one of the most anticipated mashup albums of the year. We got a chance to catch up with him and ask a few questions about the new album as well as provide you all with some singles from the new album.

It’s been a while since you released The Other White Meat. How much time have you put into Ear Candy?
I have been working on Ear Candy since October. I guess the reason it took much longer for this album to be made was because I wanted it to be of much higher quality than TOWM. I have been releasing a bunch of singles which have taken away time from the album as well.

You’ve also been playing a lot of shows, right? How has that been?
Doing shows has been an awesome experience! I never thought this would happen but I am getting a bunch of big gigs. I have a show this summer with Nelly, Waka Flaka, and The Cataracs as an example. Overall, just messing around with some other programs to get more experience.

How many new, yet-to-be-released tracks are going to be on the album?
The album in total will have 13 tracks just like TOWM. It will be around 30 minutes which is also around the same length as TOWM.

Any genres or samples we can look forward to hearing?
It is a bit more dancey than the last album, and it also has a dubstep finale. Overall, it is much more refined than TOWM. If you hear the quality of my two singles off of Ear Candy, One Last D.A.N.C.E. and Stereo Thongs, the entire album is of that quality. I’m really excited to see the reaction of my fans!

What’s the split of danceable bangin’ mashups and chill, relaxing mashups?
Well, there are not many chill mashups in the album. It is a much more dancey album. I released quite a few relaxed mashup singles this fiscal year so I wanted to make more of a dancey album instead.

What’s your favorite combination on the new album?
Probably Third Eye Blind’s Jumper and B.o.B.’s Airplanes.

Favorite track off the new album?
Probably this song called “A Fifth of Techno to the Face”. It is especially made for people who are interested in house, dance, techno, and club bangers. It has songs like Take Over Control by Afrojack, Pon De Floor by Major Lazer, and Let The Bass Kick by DJ Chuckie to name a few.

Any other comments?
I appreciate all the support from fans, blogs, and friends! I couldn’t have done any of this without you guys!
