The Ten Best Video Game MashupsThough many of us play video games, we often overlook their wonderful soundtracks. A few mashup artists have paid tribute to the soundtracks of our childhood by using songs from video games as instrumentals in their mashups. Whether the final product is silly 8-bit fun or an emotional swooping soundscape, these mashups are sure to bring back some good memories. For this top ten list, I aimed to rate songs based on the artist’s ability to: make good, creative use of the video game track, recreate the original rap song in a fresh, unique way, and produce either a cute/fun or legitimately good mashup. Now on to the countdown…

Ignore the fact that the instrumental is from Donkey Kong and it’s just a damn good beat: full of emotion and ambient sounds, fitting the acapella perfectly. And now we are down to the final two. Hopefully you liked #4 because the next two are also by Team Teamwork, off his first video game mashup album, The Ocarina of Rhyme. They are very close in ranking, if not tied for first. Team Teamwork really gets it right with these two. The songs don’t get old and are worth more than some of these other cute and silly video game mashups. In fact, I wouldn’t describe these next two as silly at all.
